May is Mental Health Awareness Month, so if you’ve thought of asking for help, now is a good time to reach out.

To get started, call the number on your health plan ID card to speak with an advocate and learn more about behavioral health programs that may be available to you. The advocate can also help you find a local network provider or a virtual provider that can provide remote behavioral health support.

You may also call 1-855-780-5955 to access our 24/7, free and confidential Substance Use Disorder Helpline. In an emergency, call 911 or get to an emergency room as soon as possible.

What is behavioral health?

Behavioral health (or mental health) includes your emotional, psychological and social health. It affects how you think, feel and act, and impacts all areas of life. Life experiences, biological factors and family history all impact mental health.

Some of the concerns that behavioral health professionals handle include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety or stress
  • Alcohol or drug abuse
  • Anger management
  • Coping with grief or loss
  • Marital problems
  • Domestic violence
  • Eating disorders
  • Compulsive spending or gambling
